Each year millions observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of Latinos to the United States. As Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile—and the indigenous people of the Americas-- celebrate their independence; Latinos for Internet Freedom used the Facing Race conference as a platform to educate people about the need for ‘online independence.’
By Candelario Vazquez, Media Justice Organizer at the Media Literacy Project Digital Justice for Us! is a youth initiative that brings together urban youth from various community, cultural, and social justice organizations across Albuquerque to tackle issues of injustice in the state of New Mexico by creating media for community power and policy change. DJ4Us! projects teach media production skills to young people in Albuquerque in preparation to collect audio and video stories from throughout New Mexico on a variety of media justice issues.

Future of the Internet: Public Hearing with FCC in Minneapolis Tonight Public News Service-MN MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minneapolis will host the nation's first public hearing tonight on the future of the Internet. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has organized the town hall event in the wake of a high-profile proposal from tech giants Google and Verizon. The companies propose to leave "wired" Internet free and open, but allow corporations to manage the data flow on fast-growing wireless networks.
